Blog #10

A new skill I have acquired from working on Assignment 5: PowerPoint Interaction is the ability to return to a selected page with a “button.” My current progress in the project is decent. I appreciate that we have the option to choose our own topic. I understand making quiz games that are academic, but it is more fun to do it on something that interests you. I don’t really have much I dislike about this assignment. The only issue is that it is time-consuming, which is expected and not a problem. I have not yet completed the assignment.

I think I will use data collection tools (e.g., Qualtrics for surveys) when I am a teacher as a way to gauge how my students like my class so far, in terms of pace and tests. Knowing your students' likes and dislikes is so important because if they dislike something, it can cause behavioral issues. The students I plan to teach will be 4th graders, specifically in the reading aspect. Because of this, I may do fun surveys to break the ice at the beginning of the year. I could use it similarly to Kahoot, but in a statistical manner rather than competitive.
A technology-related skill I would like to learn next is how to get a more aesthetically pleasing layout on PowerPoint. I have seen online some background and special effects that are super visually great to look at. The SMART goal for this skill would be simple.
  • S: I want to learn how to make more aesthetically pleasing PowerPoint slides. At least two new ways to make a slide.
  • M: I will see where I am about halfway through the deadline I set for myself.
  • A: It is realistic.
  • R: It is relevant because visually pleasing slides make it more likely for children to look up at the screen and understand what it is saying.
  • T: This will be done in two weeks.
I believe that this goal is good because it is beneficial to my students and me. I remember looking up at a teacher's side that was boring, and I wouldn’t want to pay attention. When their slides were nice to look at, I would have more drive to focus because I liked them. This may seem irrelevant, but I know it will be a good thing to learn, even if it is not for school.
